I was reading this paper that my mentor had given me to read (because reading papers is literally the best thing about research -________-)
anyways, it was talking about how these researchers were trying to measure the recovery time in a horses tendon after it had been injured. and the paper kept saying measured ‘in vivo’ which means the recovery rate was measured in a live horse. and there were 12 horses. so i kept reading about how these doctors went in and punctured the tendon of these horses and this device the horse would wear to measure the recovery.
then….out of fucking nowhere, just as blind and emotionless as possible, they freaking euthanize all 12 horses!! like….WHAT?! i was not ok with this. i stopped reading and was just shocked that these 12 horses died in the name of science. like, i feel like there must had to have been some alternative way these doctors could have obtained their data. but no. all 12 horses died and their tendons removed and studied further. i mean, i’m all for research and development, but not at the cost of animal lives.
it just doesn’t sit well with me.
